Miss NJ Teen USA 2016 Seashore Alum Gina Mellish Visits

LONG BRANCH, March 9 – Preschool through eighth grade students at The Seashore School had a surprise visit from Gina Mellish, Miss NJ Teen USA 2016, yesterday. Wearing her crown and sash, the 5’9 Seashore Day Camp alumni, who was voted Outstanding Camper in 2011, read a story called “I Like Me,” to younger children and spoke to older students about confidence and following dreams.

“With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible,” Mellish, who will represent New Jersey in the Miss Teen USA competition this summer, said.

According to Seashore Principal John Villapiano, her visit was part of the Read Across America initiative going on at all three campuses this month.

“We always knew there was something special about Gina,” Villapiano said. “She is a great role model to our students and showed them that if they focus on their goals, they can achieve anything they set their minds to accomplishing.”

Mellish also stopped by Seashore Day Camp’s 90th Day of Fun in February, where she signed autographs, visited with her former counselors, told today’s children how much she enjoyed her five years at Seashore and granted an interview to fifth grade Helen Slacik, a reporter for nationally recognized, award-winning Seashore Student Views.

The Seashore School, known for progressive award-winning programs that give students a competitive edge has been putting young people ahead of the game for 42 years. Starting with preschool and going through eighth grade, the curriculum includes foreign language, technology, science lab, physical education and swimming lessons, along with specialized training in drama, dance, music and art. The approach to education is so successful that students perform a grade above their peers, score in the top percentile in standardized exams, are recognized nationally for academic achievement and have gained acceptance into the high schools of their choice including the selective magnet academies.
