LONG BRANCH, July 29 – Campers had the time of their life at the Seashore 90th Anniversary Glow Party held in their theater transformed into a kid nightclub at 410 Broadway July 29. Split into three groups, 550 children danced, jumped and were treated to what they the called the “best day ever.”

“We wanted something really special for our 90th anniversary and when we heard about AJH Entertainment’s Camper Glow, we knew this was it,” Seashore Director John Villapiano said. “The energy, the flashing lights, the colors and the music that made it impossible not to dance are what children like best.”

According to Villapiano, the event billed as the “Ultimate Glow Party Experience,” lived up to its name, exceeding all expectations.

Filing into the blackened theater, face painted three year olds through counselors were blown away by one sensory experience after the next. All that showed were neon colors, oversized blinking beach balls, glowing balloons and flashing lights with their favorite music pulsating throughout the room. A DJ and energizing MC named Adam Hirschhorn screamed “Raise Your Hands, Raise Your Hands, Here We Go,” providing nonstop dance music and party games with black light, lighting/lasers, glow necklaces, neon sunglasses and strategically placed dots of glow in the dark face paint.

When children thought it couldn’t get any better, a 10’ tall LED interactive Glow Bot with flashing lights emerged on stilts to lead them in more dances. And then the party really started with CO2 blasts, foam glow sticks tossed into the crowd, glow prizes and a special contraption that shot glowing streamers high into the air swirling all over the crowd.

Ending with the hundreds of campers singing, “We Love Seashore, I Love Seashore,” the group thanked Coach John as Villapiano is known and the Villapiano family for bringing the best party to their camp.

The new activity headlined Seashore’s 90th anniversary Friday Special Event Schedule, which also featured Paint For A Purpose, Sandsculpting With International Champ John Gowdy, Rockit Live Concert, Beach Ball Bash, Water Carnival, Caribbean Day, Wrestling Day and Jell-O Tug of War.

“We constantly research the market and introduce new activities that give campers a chance to try things they might not experience elsewhere,” Villapiano said, summing it up by stating, “You know you’ve got it right when Week 8 of the summer comes each year and the energy level is still running so high that campers don’t want the program to end.”

While other camps have followed suit since the 1920s and opened throughout the state with their own particular styles, Seashore founded in 1926, will always have the distinction of being first and of being the leader that paved the way.
