New Ballet Program At Seashore Day Camp Raises Barre On Fun

LONG BRANCH, January 7 – A new ballet program at Seashore Day Camp will raise the barre on fun for young campers. As part of its 90th anniversary summer, Seashore will give four and five year olds a chance to learn ballet from a professional ballerina. They will take an introductory class once a week with Ellen Gunn, Artistic Director of Monmouth Academy of Ballet, who has performed with the Cincinnati and Cleveland Ballets and has been teaching ballet for the past 15 years.

A registered instructor with the Royal Academy of Dance, Gunn will introduce young campers to the basics through movement that blends music and imagination, and challenges cognitive abilities. Using props such as tiaras, wands, butterfly wings, scarves, rings and tutus, they will begin learning fundamentals, such as port de bras, plies, balance on one and two legs, posture, turning, transfer of weight, feet and leg articulation, improvisation and hand-eye coordination.

At the end of the six-week class, participants will perform for their parents at the Monmouth Academy of Ballet’s studio on Monmouth Street in Red Bank.

Families can meet Gunn, find out more about the new class and take a sample lesson at Seashore’s Day Of Fun – Open House February 6 between 12-2 p.m. at 345 Second Avenue in Long Branch.

Opening in 1926, Seashore has the distinction of being the first day camp in New Jersey, is the pioneer of an industry that has benefited hundreds of thousands of children and has become as synonymous with summer as the beach itself. Located a block from the Bath Avenue Beach, the camp offers ocean breezes, swim instruction in a league of its own, the best water sports this side of the Caribbean and the most exciting activities, trips and special events you’ll find anywhere. Plus surf, sports and Theater Camp “On Broadway.” The SHORE CHOICE with generations of area families for 90 years, Seashore has won numerous awards including BEST CAMP IN MONMOUTH COUNTY, Asbury Park Press Readers Choice Awards in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, a Family Business Of The Year Award and has even had a day declared in its honor by City Officials, where February 12 will always be Seashore Day Camp Day.  For directions, a tour or information about specific age groups, call 732-222-6464.
